Inspire Event: We’re All In This Together

Going beyond advocating for music, and providing support, solidarity and strategy for London’s music education community

10 July 2017

9:30am-4:00pm | LSO St. Luke's

Now is a time of big change for the music education community, positive and negative: confirmation of consistent funding for Music Education Hubs until 2020; changes to the current education agenda; and the challenge of ever-decreasing funds for London’s arts sector – and some excellent work is being done by teachers, Music Education Hubs and cultural organisations to adapt to this fast-changing landscape.

On Monday 10 July 2017 in partnership with LSO Discovery, this Music Excellence London Inspire Event will explore how, by improving communication between schools, Music Education Hubs and cultural organisations, we can go beyond advocating for music, guarantee its place in education and society for all children and young people in London, and show that music is here to stay.

Through this event we aim to provide:

  • Strategies that demonstrate the impact of positive relationships between schools, Music Education Hubs and local cultural organisations;
  • Learning from the year of Music Excellence London activity, and the ambition to build our network of support for London’s secondary Music teachers;
  • The opportunity to reflect honestly on communication between schools, Music Education Hubs and cultural organisations;
  • Proactive networking;
  • A platform for young musicians to share their experiences.

We will do this through:

  • Inspirational keynote speeches;
  • Panel discussions;
  • Small discussion groups;
  • Practical and musical workshops;
  • One-to-one coaching and advice sessions with experienced teacher or practitioner.

We are delighted to announce that Baroness Estelle Morris of Yardley, former Secretary of State for Education and Skills and Minister for the Arts, will be delivering the first keynote speech of the day.

Our ambition is bold, and we can’t do it alone. We hope you can join us on Monday 10 July 2017 to share your ambition for Music in London’s schools with our burgeoning network of peers, colleagues and friends.
